
Squads
The Unley Swimming Club will strive to ensure the each swimmer reaches their potential; therefore our squad structure has been designed to cater for all swimmers (pool, surf and triathletes) who want to compete from junior to national levels.
Junior Squad
Placement is made at the discretion of the coaching team with view to the following criteria:
- Minimum age of 7 years of age
- Needs to be a registered member of Swimming SA
- Must attend up to 3 training sessions per week, with quicker improvements made by doing 3 sessions per week
- Equipment – kickboard and flippers
- Are expected to participate in competitions – Junior League, Development Meets and other Club carnivals
Development Squad
Placement is made at the discretion of the coaching team with view to the following criteria:
- Minimum age of 10 years of age
- Need to be a registered member of Swimming SA
- Must attend between 2 and 4 sessions per week
- Equipment – kickboard, flippers, pull buoy and paddles
- Are expected to participate in competitions – Junior League, Development Meets, other Club carnivals, and State Championships (if qualifying times are met).

State Squad
Placement is made at the discretion of the coaching team with view to the following criteria:
- For swimmers who currently compete at State Championships
- Minimum age of 11 years of age
- Needs to be a registered member of Swimming SA
- Must attend 4 or more sessions per week
- Equipment – kickboard, flippers, pull buoy and paddles
- Are expected to participate in competitions – Division 1 Meets, Development Meets, Carnivals, State Championships and National Championships.
National Squad
Placement is made at the discretion of the coaching team with view to the following criteria:
- For swimmers competing at National level
- Minimum age of 13 years of age
- Must be a registered member of Swimming SA
- Must attend a minimum of 6 sessions per week
- Equipment – kickboard, flippers, pull buoy, paddles, snorkels and sponges
- Are expected to participate in competitions – Division 1 Meets, Development Meets, Carnivals, State Championships and National Championships
Surf Squad (Junior and Senior)
The Unley Swimming Club has a close association with several surf lifesaving clubs in SA (Brighton and Glenelg SLSC). Both these clubs have a scholarship program for surf swimmers, at Unley Swimming Club the surf program is run alongside our pool program.
- For swimmers who currently compete in surf lifesaving
- Minimum age of 8 years of age
- Needs to be a registered member of Swimming SA
- Must attend 2 or more sessions per week (dependant on your scholarship requirements from the surf club)
- Equipment – kickboard and flippers
- Required to compete in State Open Water Swimming Championships
- Are expected to participate in competitions – Junior League, Development Meets and other Club carnivals

Triathlon Squad
The Unley Swimming Club has a strong group of Triathletes that train alongside our surf and open water swimmers. In this format, Triathletes train with some of the best surf and open water swimmers in South Australia. Our Triathlete squad consists of:
- Draft local ITU racing (seen at the Commonwealth and Olympic Games) includes State and National level competitions
- Under 23 professional athletes – Sprint to Standard Distance events
- Half and Full Ironman Distance Races
